About PrintPin

Our Mission

PrintPin was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to help makers everywhere make smarter decisions, through approachable guidance and free tools that make estimating a print cost, converting resolution to print size, planning paper and ink or toner, and preparing files for the press clearer, more rewarding, and more practical.

We believe that everyone who prints or dreams of printing, from first-time hobbyists to seasoned print professionals, deserves access to accurate tools, comprehensive resources, and trustworthy guidance. Our platform bridges the gap between confusing specifications and confident, well-informed decisions about printer selection and print projects, paper and ink, DPI and print sizing, 3D printing and color management, printing at home versus using a print shop, and printing smart.

Through our free collection of tools, we help makers make informed decisions about print budgets, print resolution and DPI, print-size conversions, paper and ink or toner estimates, and bleed and margin setup. Every tool is designed with real-world applicability in mind, tested against the day-to-day realities of preparing, proofing, and producing a print job, and continuously improved based on user feedback. To go deeper, explore our illustrated printing museum, with galleries on historic presses and typography, breakthrough print techniques, iconic printed works, and the craft behind every great print.

Our Story

PrintPin emerged from a need we experienced firsthand. While trying to sort through conflicting advice and scattered references, we noticed a common challenge: the lack of accessible, accurate tools for the everyday decisions that come with planning a print project, running the numbers on a print budget, and making the most of every job.

Smart printing relies heavily on curiosity and a little know-how, which are invaluable. However, a confident maker also benefits from clear answers about how a print budget breaks down, what resolution a given print size needs, how much paper and ink a run will use, how to set up bleed and margins, and when to print at home versus a shop. We saw an opportunity to combine well-researched printing knowledge with modern tools to help people make confident decisions about every job.

Our team began developing tools that we wished existed when we started our first big print projects. Each calculator and guide was created to solve real problems encountered when budgeting a print run, comparing paper stocks, or preparing a file for an unfamiliar printer. We tested every tool against real-world numbers, refined the logic based on feedback, and ensured that the results reflected current, widely accepted printing practice.

Today, PrintPin serves active users worldwide, from first-time hobbyists to lifelong printing enthusiasts. Our tools have helped people budget print runs, convert resolution to print size, estimate paper and ink or toner, set up bleed and margins, and make more deliberate, confident printing decisions.

Our Core Values

Our Expertise

PrintPin’s tools and guides are developed and maintained by a team with extensive printing experience across multiple areas:

Our team includes experienced makers, printers, writers, and reviewers who bring years of combined experience to tool development. We regularly consult industry references and trusted experts to ensure our content reflects current best practices. Our content is general informational and educational content, NOT professional advice; printer specifications, prices, and materials vary by vendor and model — always verify specs, pricing, and material compatibility with the manufacturer or vendor before making decisions.

Looking Forward

The future of printing lies in the intelligent combination of curiosity and proven know-how with modern tools and clear knowledge. At PrintPin, we’re committed to staying at the forefront of this evolution.

Our development roadmap includes expanded tools for print planning, cost estimating, resolution and sizing, and material comparison. We’re also working on multilingual support to serve the global community of makers better, and developing specialized guidance for different print types, materials, and ways of producing them more deliberately.

Most importantly, we remain committed to keeping our tools free and accessible. As we grow, we’ll continue to prioritize user needs, ensuring that everyone has access to practical printing tools regardless of their budget.
